I first met Steve 38 years ago he was always warm, cheerful good humoured and kind. I saw him infrequently in the following years perhaps half a dozen times but when we met it was clear that throughout his struggles those attributes stayed with him and when we spoke it was like we had seen each other the day before.... He was a really lovely man.
